The city-based Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC) admitted students to two BTech programmes in tool engineering and precision technology during 2010-11 without AICTE's approval, imperilling the future of 41 students.
AICTE refused to grant permission to the institute because of infrastructure deficit. Then VTU released first-semester results at the behest of the government, subject to the condition that students will have to be transferred to other colleges. The university faces another hurdle as no other affiliated college offers BTech in tool engineering and precision technology.
GTTC MD KI Gudagi blames AICTE for the mess. "The apex regulator on its website said it had permitted the college to admit 60 students each for the two courses. But when we received the written communication, it said that no permission was granted for the courses. By this time we had already admitted students...''
